EXHIBITIONS
Tony Rosenthal
Eleven works by abstract modernist Tony Rosenthal, will be on exhibit in the garden at LongHouse from May 11th to mid-September. The playwright Edward Albee writes: Rosenthal sculptures, …instruct us, alter our perceptions, disturb and thrill us by their audacity, their wonder and their inevitability. Rosenthal may be best known for his landmark public sculpture, the 15' high Cor-Ten Cube, poised on it tip on Astor Place in downtown Manhattan, where it was permanently installed in 1967. The works in this exhibition include sculptures made of welded, painted aluminum; painted wood; and bent, welded steel. A 1998 Rosenthal work, Rites of Spring, is in the LongHouse permanent collection, a gift of Cynthia Rosenthal.
