Clay Cornucopia by Gregory Kuharic
In keeping with our squash theme this season, the Arts Committee discovered the pottery of Gregory Kuharic (right) in Departures Magazine, under the title “Worldly Goods.” This summer at Longhouse, Kuharic’s amazing talent will be on display in A Clay Cornucopia, a show of nearly 50 works in the Pavilion. Kuharic started his career as a ceramic artist and sculptor but became vice president of 19th and 20th Century Decorative Arts at Sotheby’s. In 2002, he left and immediately seized the opportunity to get back to his original passion for sculpting. His recent efforts have been to create vessels exclusively in high-fired stoneware. Kuharic says of his gourd-form vessels, “It is the volume and sense of containment that I am most interested in adapting. The fact that these pieces universally remain vessels, whether functional or not, is important to me.” These gourds with their whimsical forms should not be missed! August 6th, 2-7pm. Reception for the artist at 5pm. On view through September 25th.
