 Jahns, Tom, USA
Philosopher’s stone, 2003 peeled maple and river rock 74x21x20’’ (taller); 33 1/4x15x16’’ (shorter) collection of the artist
Tom Jahns lives on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington. By using the natural forms and shapes provided by the surrounding forest and river, Tom captures the wilderness spirit in his work for people to sense and enjoy in their own surroundings.
The two pieces on display at LongHouse are made from hand peeled big leaf and vine maple trees. The rock seats are gleaned from the wild river that flows by Tom’s studio.
