TWILIGHT TOURS

TAKE A LONGHOUSE TWILIGHT TOUR

Should you opt for a visit during open hours, we offer a number of museum guides which are available at the GateHouse. Armed with a site map, you may wish to walk the property alone or with a friend, savoring its beauty. You might purchase a copy of Blossom Time, our seasonal pictorial calendar, which illustrates the growing conditions of the many flowering plants in bloom each month. If you visit with children, pick up a copy of Hand-in-Hand or Hand-in-Hand Goes Green, our young people’s guides to the sculpture and plantings at LHR.

Mondays, July 4, August 1, 22, 29
As the sounds of evening bird-song fill the air, take a docent guided tour of the sculpture-laden gardens of LongHouse Reserve. Twilight is a special time to savor massive azaelas, rhododenderon, and multitudes of grasses and bamboo; all enhanced by the light of the setting sun. Works by Lichtenstein, de Kooning, Chihuly, Fischl, LeWitt, and Ono grace the property. You'll also visit the residence of Jack Lenor Larsen where his personal collection of ceramics, basketry, textiles, glass works by Chihuly and furniture by Wharton Esherick, are artfully displayed. We find that most of our visitors return to LongHouse again and again—not only to admire the beauty of the gardens or to delight in its ever-changing art--they come, inquisitive and engaged, to experience its magic anew.
